Assignment 7: Testing the Hypothesis Part 1
1) The opportunity that I wish to pursue is the coordination of recreational sports.
2) The opportunity I have identified is that people have a hard time coordinating recreational sports and often times end up settling for times that don’t fit their schedules. The who of this situation are those who wish to play recreational but have trouble coordinating the events. This is because of many reasons but mainly it is a scheduling issue and the fact that sports require a lot of people to play an actual game.
3) From what I have observed from the previous assignments, I have seen that there are a lot of people who find it hard to schedule recreational sports with others for several different reasons. I believe that this need applies to all sports that people want to play but it is mainly seen in the younger community. Most of the time, people blame the fact that they all have differing schedules with their friends, so they cannot gather the proper amount of people to play a sport. I would hope that the solution I propose can maybe allow strangers to play with each other, allowing for more people to connect with each other without having to meet face to face before playing.
4) After interviewing five people about this opportunity it appears that there is in fact an opportunity for me to exploit. All of them said that they did experience problems coordinating sports events with their friends and said that they would like to play any time they wanted to. Most of them said that they would play with strangers but some said they would prefer to play with people that they knew. They confirmed my hypothesis that people had differing schedules which was the main reason they could not coordinate these events. The thing that I discovered is that most of them were either fine with doing what they do now or just not willing to put in the effort to change the way they coordinate recreational sports now. They would, however, be pleased with a way to solve their problem and would not mind adjusting to a better way of scheduling sports activities.

Great idea Jonathan! I have personally also had this issue that I had difficulties finding people to play with. You really point out the problem, which is scheduling the meeting. My friends usually all want to go play beach volleyball or soccer, but it is such a hassle to coordinate (people want go at different times). There must be some better way of just making a group chat.
ReplyDeleteI think that your idea is certainly valid, and there is a present need. I personally wish that there was already something in place like this because sometimes there are not even enough people with the same schedule to organize a team for intramurals through RecSports. The only thing I worry about for this idea is that there are likely a lot of people who think it is a good idea in theory, but when it comes down to it don't care enough about pick up sports to actually utilize the app. Great post!
ReplyDeleteHi Jonathan,
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw your idea a couple weeks ago, I thought it was very creative. Many people would utilize this app because it would promote coordination and communication for finding people to do recreational sports with. It will be interesting to see how you will exploit this opportunity. I think that it is a really good idea and I think that you could be successful with it.
Hi Johnathan,
ReplyDeleteI have to say that i really enjoyed reading your blog. I read your idea a while ago in one of your first posts! I really think that this is a great idea that can have a good result if it is done correctly. Apart from being an idea that ive never heard before it is a good one.Great post, good job!
Hi Johnathan,
ReplyDeleteI think that your idea is a good one. I would personally use a service that allowed me to coordinate with friends to play sports recreationally. I am in agreement with the people that you interviewed that I would not want to take the effort to change the ways I do things to play sports, but if an app was able to coordinate things for me I would play.
Hello Johnathan,
ReplyDeleteI love this idea so much. I work in RecSports and I see this problem come up all of the time. People always call into the gym and ask to cancel their group fitness call or to cancel their sport club. It's a shame because it's always for the same reason: people can't fit their schedules together.
