Assignment 11: Idea Napkin No.1

1. My name is Johnathan Eichler and I am a Sports Management major at the University of Florida. My talents are that I am fairly decent at every sport but my main one is basketball. Also, I am pretty good with computers and software and I can learn software programs relatively quickly. My aspirations with this business concept is that it will become a routinely used product by not only me but my friends and people in the area to coordinate their pickup sports activities.

2. What I am offering to my customers an app that is an interface to allow strangers to communicate with one another specifically to coordinate sports. A user will create a post that shows who they are, what they want to play, what time they want to play, where they want to play, how many people they have already and how many people they need. It will be posted on a feed that is shown to those in the area and people can reply or dm the poster so that they can set up meetings. These posts will be called “LFG” (Looking For Game) posts.

3. I am offering this app to anyone who likes to play pickup sports and who live an active lifestyle. It is for those who specifically play team sports and who feel that they have a hard time coming up with a sufficient number of players for their sport of choosing.

4. Customers will use this app because it will allow them to gather the number of players for them much easier and more efficiently than texting or other methods because it will allow strangers to communicate with each other.

5. I believe that I am different from everybody else because I have a true passion for sports and I have been experiencing this problem for the majority of my life. I want to make pickup sports more readily accessible to people so that they too can develop a love for sports as I have.

I believe that these elements fit together very well with each other. The one thing about this idea is that I would need to hire someone to develop the app or perform maintenance on the app because I am unable to do this. I could probably learn how to do this though with a little bit of training but just to get it started I would need some help. Other than that, I believe this business concept is pretty solid and all of the steps fit together well.

    Hi Johnathan,

    This idea is one that has always interested me. As I have been reading your posts throughout the semester, it seems like you are very interested in making this app a real thing. This app has the opportunity to make a lot of people’s recreational lives, easier and more fun. I think that this is an awesome idea that you have. Good job this week.

    Your idea that you have put together makes sense, and it has great potential to do well. I find it smart to have an app where you can communicate to others that are trying to find a pickup game. Not only are you making it easier for the user, but it's also helping others that want to enjoy the same things that you are trying to do.

    I have to say that i really enjoyed reading your blog. as ive mentioned before, I really like the idea that you have imagine because just like you I can see the potential it can have. I think that this is a great assignment to find what you can do with the app to make it better and to really understand why your idea should be created. Great post, good job!

Assignment 27: Reading Reflection No.3

1.        What surprised me the most about the Wright Brothers is that they lived in their family home when they were 30 and began to take interest in their invention at this age. What I admire most about them is that they took on a challenge that everyone thought was impossible and actually made it happen. What I least admire about them is that they still stayed at the family home as adults but this really doesn’t bother me that much; there’s not much I can find that I hate about them from reading this book.
